Senior PostgreSQL Database Engineer, RDS

Job Description

Join the Database Engineering Team for RDS and Aurora PostgreSQL at AWS to build, improve, and manage PostgreSQL as a fully managed database service.

Requirements

• 8 years’ experience building and maintaining complex mission-critical production database systems such as Postgres, Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server.
• 5 years’ experience designing and maintaining PostgreSQL relational databases.
• 5 years’ experience working directly with customers, resolving database, systems, and infrastructure-related issues and providing systems architecture leadership.
• Awareness of customer workloads and use cases, including performance, availability, and scalability.
• Working knowledge of relational database internals (locking, consistency, serialization, recovery paths).
• Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (shell, Python, Perl).
• Working knowledge of at least one application programming language (Java, C#, C, C++, Go).
• Coding skills in the procedural language for at least one database engine is a must (PL/SQL, T-SQL etc.)

Responsibilities

• Work closely with customers to understand their challenges, solve critical escalations, and teach best practices.
• Act as the 'voice of the customer' to bring learnings to the engineering process.
• Drive feature enhancements, resolve root causes of issues, and improve performance of the managed database service.
• Interact with the open-source community via forums, conferences, and code submissions.
• Extend knowledge to other database engines beyond PostgreSQL.
• Design and code solutions to drive efficiencies in software architecture, create metrics, implement automation, and resolve software defects.
• Participate in design discussions, code review, and communicate with stakeholders.
• Help drive business decisions with technical input and work in a startup-like development environment.
